Account and billing
Sign-in, the account menu, what your subscription allows, the grace period, and billing problems.
NotBot signs in to your MellowState account and checks your subscription before it prints. This page covers sign-in, the account menu, what your subscription allows, what happens when NotBot cannot reach us, and what NotBot shows when a payment needs attention.
Your account
Section titled “Your account”You can create a MellowState account with:
- email and password
- Apple
Keep signing in the way you created the account. One subscription is per person or per company and covers all your shops, so several Whatnot accounts do not need separate NotBot subscriptions. To manage or cancel your subscription on the website, see Manage or cancel your subscription.
Signing in
Section titled “Signing in”Click Login to Continue. Your web browser opens the MellowState sign-in page, so you can use saved passwords and your Google or Apple sign-in. Once you approve, the browser hands you back to NotBot, which stays signed in across restarts. See Sign in to NotBot.
Your sign-in is kept in your computer’s secure credential storage. If that storage is locked or unavailable, NotBot keeps the sign-in in a local file instead and warns you, so you can fix the storage.
NotBot keeps your session fresh in the background. If your sign-in expires or your subscription ends, NotBot asks you to sign in again.
The account menu
Section titled “The account menu”Your email at the top right of NotBot opens the account menu:
- Help and docs (F1): opens these docs in a new tab in the built-in browser. Command + / on a Mac or Ctrl + / on Windows does the same.
- What’s New: what changed in recent versions.
- Contact support: opens a new email to support@mellowtools.com in your mail app.
- Log out: signs NotBot out. You need to sign in again to use it.
What your subscription allows
Section titled “What your subscription allows”Printing needs NotBot access on your account. An active subscription or a free trial gives it, and so does a subscription whose last payment failed while the payment is being retried (see Billing problems).
- If you sign in to an account with no NotBot access, sign-in does not finish. The Login to Continue button changes to Try again, with the line “Your account needs a NotBot subscription to continue.” and a View plans link that opens the Subscriptions page on our website. Once you have subscribed, click Try again.
- If your subscription ends while NotBot is open, NotBot keeps working for the grace period described below, then signs you out.
- NotBot only records shows and prints while you are signed in. If labels are waiting in the print queue when NotBot is signed out, a Print Jobs Pending message says how many are waiting. Click Log In Now; the waiting labels print once you are signed in.
When NotBot cannot reach us
Section titled “When NotBot cannot reach us”If the subscription check fails because your internet or our service is down, NotBot does not cut you off. It enters a grace period of up to 24 hours:
- printing keeps working normally;
- a warning icon appears next to your email at the top right; hover it to see how much time is left;
- NotBot keeps trying to refresh your session in the background.
This way a shaky connection during a show does not stop your printer. If the check still fails after 24 hours, NotBot signs you out. If your sign-in is actually invalid (not only unreachable), there is no grace period: NotBot asks you to sign in and stops printing.
Billing problems
Section titled “Billing problems”If a subscription payment fails, your subscription stays active while our billing system retries the payment, and NotBot keeps printing. A red or orange bar near the top of NotBot tells you something needs attention. It cannot be closed, and it goes away once the problem is fixed.
| The bar says | Button | What the button does |
|---|---|---|
| Your last payment did not go through. Update your payment details so NotBot keeps running without interruption. | Fix payment | Opens your billing page in your web browser, where you can add a new card. |
| Your payment needs to be confirmed with your bank before it can complete. | Confirm payment | Opens your billing page to confirm the payment. |
| Your subscription is on hold. Check your billing details so NotBot keeps running without interruption. | Review billing | Opens your billing page. |
| Your subscription has ended. Start it again to get NotBot running. | Restart subscription | Opens a secure payment page in your web browser so you can subscribe again. |
After you pay, the bar clears on its own when you come back to the NotBot window. If you paid through the bar’s button, NotBot checks as soon as you come back; otherwise it checks at most once every 15 minutes. Once you have used the bar’s button, Check again appears on the bar and checks straight away. If the payment is never made, the subscription ends and NotBot stops printing.
Retries of a failed payment are handled by our billing system, not by NotBot. To change your card, see Change the card you pay with. For a question about a specific payment, contact support.
